The 36th edition of the Anaheim Lions Tournament will have 54 High School teams taking part, a far cry from the beginning in 1975 when a mere eight teams participated. The first Lions Tournament Champion - Savanna High School in Anaheim included major leaguer Glenn Hoffman who was a junior on the team. In 2008, 46 High schools sent their baseball teams to Anaheim to compete in one of the most prestigious state wide high school tournaments, including the defending high school National Champions, Long Beach Wilson, who incidentally did not win the Lions tournament that year.
Last years tournament had 48 teams and Mission Viejo from the South Coast League defeated league rival and eventual CIF Division 1 Champion, Capo Valley for the championship.
This year, teams from all over California and a team as far away as Utah will come to town over spring break to show their skills. Please plan on coming out and supporting all of the high school baseball teams in this year’s 36th Anaheim Lions Tournament.
